WASHINGTON— End Rape on Campus (EROC) condemns Donald Trump’s nomination of Brett Kavanaugh to a lifelong seat on the United States Supreme Court.

EROC’s Executive Director Jess Davidson issued the following statement:

“Brett Kavanaugh has demonstrated dangerously anti-LGBTQIA, anti-immigrant, anti-ACA, and anti-reproductive health sentiments. Trump has afforded Kavanaugh tremendous power, and in his new role he may make decisions that endanger the lives of survivors and students— especially those from low-income communities, immigrant communities, and LGBTQIA communities.”

“Roe v. Wade1, Griswold v. Connecticut2, and National Federation of Independent Business v. Sebelius3 are crucial pieces of precedent, especially for survivors of sexual violence, who are dependent on emergency contraception and access to safe abortion. Kavanaugh’s blatant disregard for abortion rights, such as when he blocked an immigrant minor from access to abortion care, is especially dangerous for survivors. Trump has nominated a man who believes that he has every right to force a child to carry an unintended pregnancy to term. In his new position of power, Kavanaugh could reasonably endanger many people’s lives. We must continue to fight back against this egregious, overtly political appointment to the Supreme Court.

“If confirmed, Kavanaugh will have ample opportunity to put forth an anti-LGBTQIA agenda, and to restrict equal health care access for those who need it most. His nomination is devastating, particularly to survivors of sexual violence and to members of historically and currently disenfranchised communities.”
