Centering the Margins (CTM) is an EROC framework that focuses and centers historically underserved and marginalized student survivors in the campus anti-rape movement and attends to the particular needs of those survivors. According to the 2019 Association of American Universities Campus Climate Survey that was conducted nationally, the rate of sexual violence incidents increased, especially for women-identified, transgender, queer, and gender non-conforming students.

Under our CTM Framework, all programs and initiatives are created with the aim to support, educate, prevent, and end sexual violence against marginalized communities by providing virtual and future in-person community spaces, mental health, and legal resources, and advocacy through policy legislation that protects students’ rights and holds schools accountable is prioritized.

Centering the Margins Initiative aims to offer supplemental resources for marginalized survivors in addition to the resources on EROC’s main page. The resources and survivor support are to address the individual and systemic barriers some survivors face due to their identity. Additionally, resources give historical context, facts on sexual assault prevalence by identity, and tips on addressing discrimination from schools based on intersecting oppressions. These resources are heavily based on research and consider survivors who are marginalized on multiple with the intention to adhere to the particular needs of marginalized survivors as a way to center their issues to be more inclusive of all survivors.

EROC aims to fill the disparity of resources between different communities, be more inclusive of Historically Black College and Universities, Tribal-Serving Institutions, Hispanic-Serving Institutions, Community Colleges, and Rural-Serving Institutions, and their students when addressing campus sexual assault, and provide education on Title IX, VI, and II rights.
